Wonder Woman Review: A Wonderful Adventure and A Glorious Blockbuster

For years moviegoers have been accustom to both Batman and Superman gracing the silver screen. The two icons of DC Comics have had many movies to their names and both have pioneered the foundation of the superhero genre. Yet if you are familiar with DC Comics then you know that along with Batman and Superman another hero forms DC's superpowered Trinity and that character is none other than Wonder Woman. The famed superheroine has been beneficial for DC Comics and has played a pivotal part in pop culture. Yet despite the character's fame Wonder Woman has never had her own movie, but that has finally changed. The character made her cinematic debut in last year's​ Batman v.Superman: Dawn of Justice and now the Amazon Princess her own solo film simply titled Wonder Woman. Directed by Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman is the fourth film in the DC Extended Universe and centers on the character's time during World War One. To say that there is much riding on this movie maybe an understatement as it not only has to bring Wonder Woman's story to the silver screen, but create momentum for the DCEU. So does Wonder Woman do justice for the character, the DCEU and the summer?

The story to Wonder Woman centers on Diana (Gal Gadot): an Amazon Princess eager to find her place on Themyscira bot to mention the world. Things change for Diana when US spy Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash lands on the island and tells the Amazons about the "War to end all Wars". Once hearing about a lethal poison created by Doctor Maru (Elena Anaya) and utilized by General Elrich Ludendorf (Danny Huston), Diana believes that the conflict is being created by Ares, the God of War, and decides to travel with Steve to fight in the war-despite her mother's objection.  Along with Steve and his companions Diana travels to the frontlines to bring an end to the conflict and become the hero that she was meant to be.

Star Trek Beyond Review: Exciting Installment in the Star Trek Franchise

When thinking of science fiction moviegoers commonly look towards the likes of Star Wars at being the shining representation of the genre. However there is another series that boldly goes to be the personification of science fiction and that franchise just so happens to be Star Trek. Since its inception on television, Star Trek has played a major role in pop culture with its various television series, books and of course film franchise. Since 2009 Star Trek has ventured on the silver screen with a reboot to the film series which has captured the story of a younger crew to the original Enterprise. Now, to commemorate the series' anniversary, the adventure that started  seven years ago continues again in the new film Star Trek Beyond. The third installment to the rebooted franchise see Justin Lin as the film's director; whom takes the helm from J.J Abrams. With star Simon Pegg helping with the script, Star Trek Beyond looked to be an exciting (albeit excessive) summer blockbuster; but does the new entry boldly take the series to new heights or does Star Trek Beyond find itself lost in space?

Star Trek Beyond centers on the crew of the Enterprise whom are continuing their five year journey through space. Contemplating his future in starfleet, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads his fellow crew into an unknown nebula after receiving a distress call from another ship. However the Enterprise is lured into a trap which leads to the destruction of the famed starship. Stranded on an unknown planet, Kirk and the crew must find a way home; but that seems easier said than done as the villains Krall (Idris Elba) is determined to hunt them for an artifact that can help the alien to purge the galaxy.

The Finest Hours Review: Stays Afloat with Good Performances and Gripping Sequences

The sea can be a very dangerous place for the likes of ships as you never know what can happen out there. Fortunately the likes of U.S Coast Guard are trained to deal with dangerous oceanic situations such as search and rescue missions. On many occasions the Coast Guard have dealt with thrivolous missions saving ships from the harsh waters; but perhaps one of the most iconic incidents was the rescue of the SS Pendleton. In 1952 the SS Pendleton was torn in half leaving its crew stranded on a sinking ship. However coast guard Bernard Webber led the CG 36500 to retrieve the crewmen, which led to his team saving 33 men. This incident has become a major part in the Coast Guard's history to the point where the tale can be seen on the silver in the new adventure film: The Finest Hours. Directed by Craig Gillepsi the film adapts the events from the 2009 novel, "The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S Coast Guards Most Daring Sea Rescue". With such a story to tell, does The Finest Hours ride the waves of success, or does this drama sink to the bottom of the sea?

The plot to The Finest Hours centers Bernie Webber (portrayed by Chris Pine). The story centers on Bernie's life in the Coast Guard and his personal affairs as Bernie gets engaged to Miriam (portrayed by Holliday Grainger). However when word gets out that the SS Pendleton is sinking, Bernie is tasked to save the ship's crew along with Richard Livesly (portrayed by Ben Foster), Andrew Fitzgerald (portrayed by Kyle Gallner) and Ervin Maske (portyaed by James Magaro). As Bernie sails the harsh waters, the crew of Pendleton are led by engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) as they try to remain afloat during the dangerous storm.
