Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Analysis

While many moviegoers are familiar with the likes of Captain America and Iron Man, it seems the film that has most people’s attention is the fourth film in Phase 2: Guardians of the Galaxy.  Since the film was announced, fans have been quite surprised that Marvel Studios would adapt this intergalactic team while moviegoers were just curious on just who the Guardians of the Galaxy are. The film will be hitting theaters this summer, but at long last viewers finally got a taste of the film when the trailer premiered last night during The Jimmy Kimmel Show.  As expected the preview has spread like wildfire and has peak the interest for the film. Yet what did we learn about the movie from this preview? Was the trailer everything we were hoping it could be. Let's find out in this edition of Trailer Analysis:

Who Are The Guardians:

When the trailer opens, we are introduced to Peter Quill aka Star Lord. When Peter calls himself by Star Lord, Djimon Housnsou's character replies "Who?". This was a great move on the trailer's part. While movie has a lot of buzz, many still don't know who the Guardians of the Galaxy are. This was a great way to introduce them and for viewers to understand who the main cast are. Sure, there are plenty of characters left out of this trailer, but the main cast is there, and right now, that's exactly what newcomers needed to see.

Humorous Atmosphere:

For those expecting Guardians to being a Space Opera, you may be disappointed from this new  trailer. After the past few seconds, we see the humorous side of the film with the likes of Peter Quill's mannerism and the trailer use of the song "Hooked on A Feeling". This might be seen as a disappointment to some, but to others, it is not that shocking. The films of Marvel Studios are known for having a sense of humor, so it should come to no shock that there will be some funny moments in this upcoming sci-fi film.  While there are certain to be laugh out loud moments, there is no doubt more to the film then what this first trailer is showing off.

Space Adventure:

Guardians of the Galaxy may not be a Space Epic, but just by watching the trailer, the film will no doubt be a Sci-fi Adventure. There was almost a Raider's sense coming from the action portion of the trailer. This would indeed work in the film's favor.  Guardians may not turn out to be the boldest sci-fi film of the decade, but it could be just a fun ride; and that would be a win in my book.

All in all, I thought the first trailer to Guardians of the Galaxy did its job well. Not only did it introduce the characters and what we could expect to see from the film, but it was just an unique trailer. The trailer showed that perhaps the most anticipated film is not coming out at the beginning of the summer, but during summer's end. We will just have to see.

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1st.
