It’s here. After nearly a year of speculation, rumors, and just blind guessing, we finally have an official press release, reviling who is going to be in the 2015 blockbuster. Let’s not waste any time and dive into whose in the cast. First off the big three are returning, which isn’t so much news as it is a conformation of the worst kept secret in Hollywood. Joining Mark Hamill, Ford and Fisher is the already confirmed cast member Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca. Rounding out the returning cast members are Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker making both the only actors to appear in every Star Wars film to date. Notably absent from the announced names was that of Billy Dee Williams, who last had a brief cameo as Lando in the excellent Lego Movie. While this doesn't mean he won’t be appearing in film, I think it would be safe to assume he will have only a minor supporting role if any.

And now, drum roll please, the new cast members.

Andy Serkis
Perhaps the biggest surprise was Andy Serkis, as I hadn't even heard any rumors about him being attached to the project prior to today’s announcement. Serkis is of course best known for his mocap work in films such as Lord of the Rings, and will be starring in this summer’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. There is currently no news on if he’s role will require motion capture or not.

John Boyega
Up next is probably the actor who I am most excited about, as John Boyega is a wonderful actor who I’ve just been waiting to have a break out since he’s debut in Attack the Block. Attack the Block is an excellent film that I highly recommend by the way. Expect this role to make him an A-list talent.

Adam Driver
This next one doesn't come as much of a shock, as Adam Driver’s name has been heavily rumored for some time now. Best known for he’s work on the HBO show Girls, Driver has long been rumored to be playing the films villain. This has yet to be confirmed.

Daisy Ridley
Making her film debut will be Daisy Ridley. Ridley has had some minor roles in television shows, but this film will be her introduction to most audiences.

Oscar Isaac
Another name that was pretty heavily rumored was Oscar Isaac. Isaac is best known for he’s award winning role as the title character in the film Inside Llewyn Davis.

Domhnall Gleeson
Harry Potter fans will most likely recognize this next name, Domhnall Gleeson, perhaps best known for his role as Bill Weasley in the final two Harry Potter films. Gleeson also had a minor in Dredd and nominated for a Tony in 2006 for he’s work on The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

Max Von Sydow
Finishing off the cast is one of the all-time greats, Max von Sydow. Having worked in film and television since the 50’s, Sydow has played some of the screens most iconic roles.

So what does this casting news tell us? Simple, Abrams and company are not messing around. This is quite possibly the strongest line up of actors for any film coming in the near future. If the script and direction are as solid as the names we have seen here, I think it’s safe to say that we are in for an excellent time at the movies.
