Trailer Analysis: The Greatest Battle Begins in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

All this week, Sony has teased it. We knew it was coming and fans awaited for it's release. So finally, it is here. What is it? Why it is the first trailer to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The film is scheduled to hit theaters next summer and features Spider-Man facing an assortment of baddies, like Electro and Goblin. I loved the first film and I've been excited for the next installment; though not without some skepticism After seeing this trailer, my expectation have been raised to 11. This preview has so much to it that doing an trailer analysis may not be enough; but I'm going to do it anyways, so here we go:

The Double Lives of Peter Parker:
As soon as the trailer start, we see that Peter Parker's life is a different one. Not only does he have a relationship with Gwen Stacy, but he fights crime as Spider-Man on a daily basis. As the movie progresses, we may see what these responsibilities will do to Peter; both in the choices he makes and the choices of his enemies.

New Face, New Enemies:
With any sequels comes the concept of seeing new characters, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 seems to flourish with this. It begins with the introduction of Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) who is an old friend of Peter Parker. However, Harry is not coming alone as he bringing some villainous looking characters with him. For the longest time, moviegoers have known that Electro(Jaime Foxx) would be the primary villain and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) would also be featured in the film.

Both of these villains were featured heavily, but the more puzzling character was the Goblin. While we don't a clear shot of him  (well except for 1:55) most fans know, because the poster, that the Goblin is Harry Osborne. So Spider-Man faces against an assortment of enemies. While this did not work in past, the three villains in this film seem to go well together, but that might because of other elements.

Secrets: Both Front and Back:
In the first film, Peter discovered that his parent's disappearance might have been because of a secret. While the mystery was not solved, the movie kept the case open for later films to answer the question. So here we are in the sequel; and sure enough, the secrets are still everywhere. Peter finds out that Oscorp has been keeping track of him. We also discover that Aunt May knows something, and the Osbornes are scheming. The secrets of this film seem to be right in front of us which may be disappointing to some. However, there while some secrets seem obvious, there are things they are not telling us. Look at this picture and see for yourself.

I rest my case

Tense Action:
You know there is going to be action in this film. This trailer can a test to that. From Spider-Man stopping a robbery to him facing off against Electro, this film looks seems to feature all kinds of action scenes. I don't think it will disappoint in this area. The scene I'm looking forward to most is the trailer's ending scene where Spider-Man fights Electro at a power plant.

Just A Bigger Movie:
Whether it is the story or the action, the trailer shows u just how much bigger this film is going to be. Everything seems to working as a cohesive unit which only heightens my intrigue. Only time will tell if this element is effective, but for right now,  this sequel is certainly raising the stakes for Spider-Man.

If this is just the first trailer, I wonder what else in store for The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Well, if the final movie is anything like this preview, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 could join the list of good sequels; and it could become a franchise that many will stick with (no pun intended with "Stick")

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
