The Dark Tower Review: Loose Adaption Makes For An Entertaining Adventure

It is hard not to know the name Stephen King. For years the decorated novelist has published a number of books with many of King's stories leaving an impact on pop culture. A cased point of this influence is none other than the Stephen King novels adapted to film. Many of King's tales have one way or another become cinematic features; such as Christine, Pet Cemetery, The Green Mile, The Myst and It. Despite the numerous adaptations one has yet make a debut on the big screen and that would be The Dark Tower. Considered to be King's Magnum Opus, The Dark Tower has spent many a year in development hell going through a handful of productions. Now at long last the dark fantasy finally makes its way to silver screen with the new summer blockbuster simply know as The Dark Tower. Directed by Nikolaj Arcel The Dark Tower is more as a continuation to the series oppose to being just an authentic adaptation. With the hope of making this into a new film franchise (as well as getting a TV series) there is much riding on this new blockbuster. So does The Dark Tower bring the grim fantasy to the movies or does this blockbuster remain lost in the realm of obscurity.

The Dark Tower centers on Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor): a young boy who dreams of another world, a man in black and a gunslinger. While everyone thinks he is just imagining things, Jake's vision are in fact real as he inadvertently travels a world known as Mid World. Arriving in this new dimension Jake meets Roland Deschain (Idris Elba):  the famed gunslinger that Jake has had visions about. Roland wanders Mid World in order to find Man in Black Walter (Matthew McConaughey) and get his revenge on the sorcerer. Despite the gunslinger's reluctance Roland and Jake travel through Mid World to find Walter and end the sorcerer's tyranny, but this mission is easier said than done as Walter seeks to use Jake's abilities so he can destroy the Dark Tower and release the darkness that will wipe out all of existence.

Sing Review: Illumination's Latest Film is a Typical yet Stellar Musical Comedy!

Illumination Entertainment has certainly made a name for itself over the years. With hits such as the Despicable Me series, the animation studio has become a major player in its genre, and continues to do so for every movie season. Illumination has had one film in 2016 with The Secret Life of Pets, but it would not the studio's only appearance this year as in theaters this holiday season is Sing. Written and directed by Garth Jennings Sing centers on the concept of anthropomorphic characters competing in a singing contest. Although seeing animals dealing with human situations is nothing new (even for this year) there was something about this animated flick that I found compelling. So does Sing steal the spotlight or does this animated musical miss a few notes?

Sing tells the story of Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey): a down on his luck Koala who seeks to keep his dream alive by saving his theater from being repossessed. In one final scheme Buster decides to hold a singing competition for $1,000, which turns into a $100,000 contest after a mishap. Because of this prospect many of the city inhabitants head to the theater to perform: which includes the domestic pig Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), the young gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), the shy elephant Meena (Tori Kelly), the enthusiastic pig Gunter (Nick Kroll), the aspiring rock star porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johnasson) and the smooth talking mouse Mike (Seth McFarlane). After making through the auditions each of the contestants put together their acts while trying to balance the complications of their lives. As the singers have their issues to deal with, Buster does everything in his power to raise the $100,000 and make sure the show is a hit.

Kubo and The Two Strings Review: An Adventurous Classic from Laika Entertainment

Since 2009 Laika Entertainment has graced the silver screen with their stop-motion animated features. It began with the craziness that was Coraline, continued with the spookiness of ParaNorman and followed by the zaniness of  The Boxtrolls. Now Laika takes moviegoers on a massive adventure with Kubo and the Two Strings. Directed by the CEO of Laika Entertainment, Travis Knight, Kubo and the Two Strings surrounded itself with supernatural themes and placed itself into realm of ancient Japan. Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, Kubo and the Two Strings made an impression in its trailers by featuring a big time adventure with stellar animation. So does Kubo and the Two Strings do honor to Laika Entertainment, or does this animated feature get lost on its quest?

This animated feature centers on Kubo (Art Parkinson): a one eyed boy who lives in hiding with his mother. After staying out during the sunset, Kubo is discovers by his mother's sisters (Rooney Mara) whom are moon spirits that have come for Kubo other eye. After his mother sacrifices herself, Kubo is sent off to find his father's armor with the help of Monkey (Charlize Theron): a wooden charm brought to life thanks to the magic of Kubo's mother. On their quest the two meet up with a cursed warrior named Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) and together the three set off to find the magical armor that will protect Kubo from the Moon King.

Matthew McConaughey as The Green Goblin?

Rumors can be a funny thing sometimes. While it is usually speculation, you cannot help but wonder if there some truth in rumors; particularly when they deal with the Marvel Cinematic Universe . A new rumor on Marvel Studios' Spider-Man caught my attention last night. There are many factors to this reboot that need to be answered; such as who will be playing Spider-Man and will be the film's director? However, the latest rumors has nothing to do with either question as this report has to do with Spider-Man's arch nemesis: The Green Goblin.

Since Spider-Man's debut on the silver screen, the Green Goblin has emerged in some form or way; whether it was Willem Dafoe's interpretation in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, or Dane Dehaan's take on the Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So it only make sense for the Green Goblin to join Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However according to this new rumor, not only will Norman Osborne be in the upcoming film but the man speculated to play the villain is Matthew McConaughey.
